If you’re wondering how to experience the best of Malaysia in 3 days, the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the ideal place to start. Whether you’re a foodie, a culture lover, or just here for a good time, there are plenty of fun activities in KL to keep you excited from sunrise to street market nights.
Here we have shared our best finds in Kuala Lumpur and how we spent 72 hours in this dazzling city.
Did you know?
Kuala Lumpur was founded by miners in 19 century in middle of the jungle. Village soon developed into the city and city became metropilis and captial of Malaysia !

All You Need to Know Before Planning a Malaysia Trip
- Flights from India to KL: Round-trip flights from major Indian cities to Kuala Lumpur cost around ₹20,000- 25000 if booked in advance.
- Visa for Indians (June 2025 Update):
Malaysia is offering free visa entry for Indian travellers – all you need is a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), which is super easy to apply for online. - Best Time to Visit Kuala Lumpur: Plan your trip between June to August or January to February for the best weather – less rain and more sunshine! This is also a great time to explore East Malaysia if you’re extending your trip beyond KL.
- Getting Around in KL: Grab is super convenient and widely used. But if you’re on a budget, rides can add up quickly. The metro system in KL is clean, air-conditioned, and well-connected – a great way to explore the city without burning a hole in your wallet.
- Currency Exchange- While you can exchange INR to MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) at the airport or in KL, we recommend exchanging some currency back home for better rates and to avoid unnecessary transaction fees.
- Sim: There are plenty of affordable SIM options. The most popular ones include: U Mobile, CelcomDigi, Hotlink, and Tune Talk. We personally used U Mobile, and it worked smoothly throughout our trip in KL.
SIM cards at the airport are more expensive, but convenient since they’re already activated. You can also get one at 7-Eleven, but you might need to activate it yourself.
Where to Stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur has no shortage of places to stay – from luxury hotels to cozy rental apartments, there’s something for every budget and travel style.
We personally wanted a place that gave us a 24×7 view of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, and that’s how we found this cozy little apartment – and honestly, it turned out to be perfect for our kind of trip. The check-in process was smooth, the apartment was clean and well-equipped, and waking up to that skyline view every morning was just amazing.
The only downside some might find is that it’s not in the heart of the city, so you’ll need to Grab your way around or hop on the metro – but if views and peace matter more to you than being right in the action, this is so worth it.

Things to do in kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 3 Days
An Evening in Bukit Bintang
The city’s most happening neighborhood that truly comes alive after dark. If you’re someone who loves street food, people-watching, or late-night shopping, you’ll easily spend 2–3 hours here without realizing.
Here’s what we loved and recommend trying:
- Crème Brûlée Milk Tea at Machi Machi (Animesh’s fav!)
- A refreshing soft serve at 32 Parfait
- Pistachio fingers at Kunafa Fingers (a dream for dessert lovers)
- Classic comfort food at Holland Fries – only for 10 RM

KLCC Park for a more relaxed vibe
It’s a local favorite and a great spot for tourists too – especially in the evening. The park sits right in front of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, offering the perfect view for photos, slow strolls, or just lying on the grass and soaking in the skyline.
Don’t miss the Light & Fountain Show at the lake – it’s totally free!
Quick tip: Try to get there by 7 PM to grab a good spot.
While you explore KLCC area, do visit Saloma Link Bridge which connects KLCC City Centre area to the Kampung Baru district. It’s a sight to behold.

Batu Caves
No trip to Kuala Lumpur is complete without visiting the iconic Batu Caves — a sacred Hindu temple, known for its towering golden Murugan statue and rainbow-colored steps, this place is a visual treat and holds deep spiritual significance.
- Go early in the morning (before 9 AM) to avoid the heat and the crowds.
- Dress modestly – cover your knees and shoulders.
- Be prepared to spot dozen of monkeys (hehe).
After your visit, treat yourself to a wholesome South Indian breakfast at one of the local restaurants nearby – dosa, idli, or refreshing coconut water.
If you wish to do a half day Kuala Lumpur and Batu Caves tour, you may book from here.

Reserve your evening for Petaling Street Market in Chinatown
It’s loud, lively, and bursting with energy. Yes, it’s chaotic…but in the best way possible! We absolutely loved getting lost in the lanes, browsing quirky stalls, and trying some truly unique treats. This place is best for your souvenirs shopping.
Here’s what we tried and totally recommend:
- Soya Bean Milk & Dessert at Kim Soya Bean – a refreshing Chinese specialty!
- Animesh was brave enough to try Durian (the famous smelly fruit) at Dury Dury.
- Fresh sugarcane juice and mango sticky rice from the local street vendors.
If you walk towards Merdeka 118 (Oh, you must! It’s the second tallest building in the world), you’ll find the street dotted with cute little shops and cafés. Some of our favorites were:
- Chicken Roti from Joy – soft, spicy, and super satisfying.
- Mango Rice Paper Rolls from Kwan Kee Store – chewy and fun!
- White Peach Oolong Milk Tea at Chagee Tea Shop – Oh! you’ll love it.
- Yummiest cookies at Cookiecrumbs
Tip: Go light on lunch if you want to fully enjoy this food adventure and wear comfy shoes!😉

Kwai Chai Hong Street
Just a short walk from Petaling Street is Kwai Chai Hong, a beautifully restored alleyway that feels like a step back in time. The walls here are painted with stunning murals that bring the stories of old Kuala Lumpur’s Chinese community to life. You can even find the oldest lamp post of Kuala Lumpur here!
While you’re there, make a sweet stop at Ching Ching – a cute little shop tucked in the lane that serves coconut pandan ice cream.
Trust us, you’ll thank us later.😊

Attend a Batik Colour Workshop
If you want to try something creative and cultural, a Batik colouring workshop is a must-do in Kuala Lumpur. Batik is the traditional Malaysian art of hand-dyeing fabric using wax and colors. Spend a couple of hours (generally 2-3) painting your own batik piece, which you get to take home as a unique souvenir.
You can book a slot in advance at places like Jadi Batek Gallery, or online through Klook.
Village Park
If you’re someone who loves trying local flavors, then Village Park absolutely needs to be on your Kuala Lumpur itinerary. It’s a bit of a legend among locals and for good reason. This spot is famous for serving the best Nasi Lemak in the city – Malaysia’s beloved national dish featuring fragrant coconut rice, crispy fried chicken, spicy sambal, peanuts, egg, and anchovies.
They open as early as 6 AM and usually wrap up by 1 PM, and – it’s always full. So, go early to avoid long queues and get a seat! Don’t skip the iced Milo or teh tarik (Malaysian milk tea) on the side. Yum! 😋

If you have more than 3 days in Malaysia, than you must explore Thean Hou Temple – one of the oldest and most beautiful Chinese temples in the city, and, Federal Territory Mosque (Masjid Wilayah) – a hidden gem! This mosque is open to visitors and offers guided tours; Bricksfield, also known as Little India if you are craving some authentic Indian food.
That’s a wrap of our 3-day Kuala Lumpur trip – an ideal starting point to discover Malaysia in 3 days. We hope this helps you plan a fun, flavourful, and memorable trip.
